Iceberg Alley

Qikiqtarjuaq means "big island" but it could also very well mean "iceberg alley". This was how many people referred to the area when I first arrived there - and for good reason. As ice calves off the Greenland ice cap and slowly makes its way down Davis Strait to warmer waters, they provide no end to the interesting sites. Here then, are a few samples from my photo archives.

Oh now I miss icebergs. We lived in Newfoundland for 2 years and June was my favorite month. That is when the icebergs came in.

I'll be sure to send you a message on a berg when the sea ice breaks up! :) We've got several productive glaciers in Uummannaq fjord and, like you say, they can end up in Arctic Canada, Newfoundland etc.

It's kind of cool!
